Mechanical design for the $40M rehabilitation and 12,000sf expansion to the approximately 13,000sf historic Presidio Theatre, initiated and led by Peggy Haas, daughter of Levi Strauss & Co. executive Peter Haas. The theatre served as an entertainment hub for the military and their families for nearly six decades, screening movies and hosting live events or radio broadcasts. Program spaces include a 600-seat theater, food concessions space, two new wings consisting of a catering area, green room, offices, and the stage’s load-in point, courtyard for events, and an expanded basement housing dressing rooms, a lower lobby, and rehearsal space. Because it had initially been designed for cinematic use, the proscenium arch was moved forward by about twelve feet to increase stage depth and ramps coming off the stage into the house provide a link between performer and audience. LEED Silver certified. Completed in 2019.
