Our History

Business is change. Guttmann & Blaevoet has seen its share of changes since it was founded in 1956 by Karl Guttmann and Gerald Kasin. Name changes, for example. Every 20 years or so we’ve taken on a new one. Kasin Guttmann & Associates became Guttmann & MacRitchie in 1977, then Guttmann & Blaevoet in 1997 (We are on the lookout for names even more challenging to spell and pronounce for 2017).

The company started as a traditional M&P (Mechanical and Plumbing) engineering firm, adding Cx (Commissioning) in 2003, E (Electrical engineering) in 2005, T (Telecom/Technology) in 2006, and BPM (Building Performance Modeling) in 2008, making us a full service M/E/P/T/BPM/Cx firm. (Now we need to find ways to add the rest of the alphabet.)

In 1993 the presidential torch passed from Karl Guttmann to his son, Steve, then to Jeff Blaevoet in 2000 and most recently to Margarita Gorokhovsky in early 2010. Each change in leadership builds on the previous, each successor standing on the shoulders of the former as we reach higher and farther.

We have grown throughout California, with offices in San Francisco, Sacramento, Santa Rosa and Walnut Creek. Like each individual who plays a part in the company, Guttmann & Blaevoet is an ever changing organism. We look forward to growing with you.

Karl Guttmann passed away in October of 2005 at the age of 86. His legacy continues.
