Steve has over 40 years of experience in design, construction, controls, and commissioning for complex projects, including for higher education facilities, libraries, hospitals and medical centers, laboratories, museums and aquariums, and performing arts/media facilities.

A LEED Fellow, Steve brings a strong commitment to sustainability, energy and water conservation, decarbonization, and healthy and resilient building design – and delivering buildings that work and perform as intended. He has served on national committees that developed guidelines and best practices for sustainability in our nation’s healthcare facilities and is a Board Member of the Building Commissioning Association California Chapter. Steve is also on the ASHRAE Building Decarbonization Task Force’s Operational Carbon Working Group and chairs its Building Systems Efficiency Subcommittee. Steve is also the principal investigator behind the recently published “Building Decarbonization Guide: A Zero Carbon Future for the Built Environment”.

What's Always on My Mind:

Is there enough venison and wild boar in my freezer. Did I do the right thing at the right time. Am I leaving my kids a world in which they could have a better life than I did.

Mantra

Be the change you want to see in the world. War does not determine who is right - only who is left. Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, and wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad. Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

Fun Fact

In 8th grade I was a National Merit Scholar in French. Once upon a time my bowling average was 145. I was the Tragedian female impersonator in “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.”

People Don't Know That...

My mother was an artist, and my father was a third-generation engineer. I taught Sustainable Lifestyles and Organic Gardening at Rivendell Farm in Cave Junction, Oregon in the Summer of 1982. I enjoy hunting for wild game to eat. I played alto sax in the Pep Band in college. I love photography. I am a huge fan of the artist Friedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser.
