Abdel has 25 years of experience in the design of mechanical systems for healthcare, commercial, industrial, education, mixed-use and high-end residential projects. He is a strong advocate for green/sustainable and Net Zero Energy design and is a LEED AP with two designations: Building Design+ Construction(BD+C) and Homes.
Abdel is the co-author for the 6th edition of the ASHRAE Green Guide after serving as the editor for the 4th and 5th editions. Abdel is a member of ASHRAE SSPC 62.1 – responsible for the national standard on Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality - for 8 years as well as a liaison to the ASHRAE Standard 170 committee, which is responsible for the national standard on Ventilation of Healthcare Facilities. Abdel is currently working with OSHPD in developing a Code Application Notice for designers on how to do a combined OSHPD/62.1 calculation. and is one of the only 19 certified Healthcare Facility Design Professional (HFDP) in California.
